Introduction

This course will teach you the basics of pet first aid, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). You will gain a better understanding of what to do in an emergency situation as well as become familiar with the signs and symptoms of cardiac arrest or other medical emergencies. After completing this course, you will have the knowledge and confidence to help save a pet’s life. 

This course will cover topics such as how and when to perform CPR on a pet, basic methods for managing airways and breathing problems, recognizing signs of cardiac arrest, methods for preventing common injuries or illnesses, and much more. We will also discuss safety rules so that you can stop accidents or injury in your own home. 

At the end of this course, you’ll be able to demonstrate basic pet first aid skills and have a greater understanding of how to respond in an emergency situation involving animals. Thank you for taking the time to learn about animal CPR – your knowledge could save a precious life someday!

 

Objectives: 

Pet CPR Training Course Objectives: 

  1. Describe the anatomy of several types of pets. 
  2. Explain the basics of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  3. Illustrate appropriate techniques for administering pet CPR in different situations. 
  4. Outline the safety considerations when performing pet CPR. 
  5. Identify common signs and symptoms of cardiac arrest or other medical emergencies requiring pet CPR response. 
  6. Demonstrate basic first aid techniques that may be used in a pet emergency situation prior to administering pet CPR, with an emphasis on airway management and clearing an obstruction if applicable. 
  7. Explain the importance of rescue breathing, chest compressions and other interventions when properly performing pet CPR applications for different types of pets based on their size and age groupings according to their species-specific guidelines from veterinary organizations such as American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) or International Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society (IVECCS).
