Introduction 

The Caring for People with Dementia training course is designed to provide carers with the skills and knowledge they need to provide high-quality care to people with dementia. 

The course covers a range of topics, including an introduction to dementia, the importance of person-cantered care, and how to effectively communicate with people with dementia. 

By the end of the course, participants will have a better understanding of how to provide care that meets the individual needs of people with dementia.

 

Objectives: 

At the end of this training program, participants should be able to: 

  • Recognize and understand the signs and symptoms of dementia. 
  • Describe how to assist individuals with dementia in their daily activities. 
  • Identify ways to create an environment that is supportive to those with dementia. 
  • Explain strategies for providing emotional support for individuals with dementia. 
  • Demonstrate effective communication techniques when interacting with individuals living with dementia. 

 

Course outline 

Module one: Introduction & Overview of Dementia 

  • Define what is meant by “dementia” and recognize the diverse types of dementia.  
  • Understand the impact of a diagnosis of dementia on family members and other caregivers. 
  • Learn about the relevant research related to caregiving for people living with dementia.
